What the studies say Although there aren't many studies on collagen supplements, a 2014 study found women who took a collagen supplement showed improvements in skin elasticity. Its topical use is also supported by research in various skincare products. One study has shown collagen can support the muscle mass growth in men.

A good quality supplement is a convenient alternative.
